Porcupine Grass, also known as Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus', is an ornamental grass with striking features. This grass has tall, spiky foliage that stands upright, with bands of yellow that horizontally wrap around the green blades. Porcupine Grass produces beautiful, reddish-bronze plumes in late summer and fall, which add texture and interest to any landscape. This grass is low-maintenance and is an excellent choice for adding height and structure to gardens, borders, and naturalized areas.

Care Guide

  • Watering: Needs regular watering, especially during the first growing season. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings
  • Maintenance: Remove any dead or damaged foliage throughout the growing season
  • Pruning: Cut back old growth to the ground in late winter or early spring before new growth appears
  • (Optional):Fertilize once in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer. Alternatively, a top dressing of compost or well-rotted manure can be applied in spring or fall
